Who started rock music?

I really hate the standard stand. Everyone says we've "forgotten our roots." This is equivelent to saying "we don't hang out with our grandparents enough." We've "forgotten" our roots because people have taken them and built upon them, making something new and what we precive as better.

This analogy is a long shot, but, every time we give birth we don't have single-celled ameoba that evolve into homosapiens...

Beisdes, even 50's rock blows.

Im so glad we had this thread because we don't get in fights about this non-stop anyway.

You know what, im almost certain rock was started when they banged on dead animal skins wrapped around bowls. The first guys to play "drums" had no skill or training...like keith moon. There ya go Adam and Eve inventive friggen rock.

Actually, Rock didn't start out with banging on corpses, :nono: as TheBig3KilledMyRainDog says... it's roots are in Religion. :yikes: (Believe it or not) Rock n Roll, which is the grandfather of modern Rock, was born from Gospel singing... :p:

Who the hell are you? Also, I've taken muscial theory before, and the road from gospel singing is not only long, its kinda sketchy. If we say rock is inspired from Jazz, then you'd have to say that jazz being the antithasis to gospel music inspiried it. Which is a load of crap.

If we mix blues (which did inspire rock) with gospel we get soul. But I still see no corrolation.

And then we'd have to say gospel was a marrige of gregorian chant and negro feild hollering (which is a legitamit thing, im not being racist) so no. No, no way in hell is rock birthed from Gospel.

yes, indeed you are corrcect rain dog

rock was started from a mix of blues and county, by a man named buddy holly. He did it by doing county covers of blues songs like shake rattle and roll by muddy waters and people like that. Buddy Holly had no idea what he was doing at the time but thats what started rock n roll. The term rock n roll though was coined due to chuck berries music. The elvis came along and took rock n roll to the mainstream. In those days there was difference between rock and pop. The gap between the two genres started in the 60s, with banRAB like the Rolling stones, the Kinks (the band who discovered distortian) and the Who (first band to smash a guitar on stage). Rock became a seperate genre to pop and then it kept evolving as each new band came along

goddamn in a nerd

Ok, I admit... I might have been to general... however.. it DID take a process in which gospel was involved... ever wondered where the term Rock'n'Roll came from? Believe me, I know what I'm talking about... I had to write an essay about it for my musik teacher (theory) and got an A.

Jazz started rock, which started metal, which started punk, which started hardcore... it all came from jazz. why else do banRAB still have a bass?
