pretty much what im asking if you walked up to some one who doesnt watch nascar who would they more likley know

To answer honestly. Richard Petty. He was a household name like Elvis, Niel Armstrong and Evil Knievel long before anyone even heard of Dale Earnheardt.

They were at their peak in different times. Had Petty had the tv coverage that Sr had he would have been head and shoulders above.

tricky question. Sr. off the track was arguably one of the nicest guys you could meet, (as long has there were no TV cameras around.) If one was to meet both in private, I have to give it to SR.

I'm not a nascar fan. I know Earnhardt Sr. I don't know Richard Petty.... Sowwy.

I'd say most folks old enough to remember these guys would say Petty is The King, and Earnhardt was a dirty driver who wrecked a lot of others. I know people will give me thumbs down but you know it's God's honest truth! There'll be a place in Heaven for King Richard. Dirty Dale, I'm afraid, went downward when he croaked.

Richard Petty is my answer. He was the one that pretty much built Nascar in the early days and even here in the modern era.

Even though they are both great drivers, I would think that they would remember Earnhardt"s name.

We actually did this at work one time, to a couple guys, they had atleast heard of Dale Sr.. They even thought Petty was dead..They both said they don't watch Nascar or any auto racing, but they recognized the name Earnhardt..

Go Dale Jr & Hms
