i dont think he was dead in the first place. the kryptonite left in him just prevented him from healing rapidly. he was at a steady 40 pulse rate which is really low. once it was taken out, it just made his recovery more drastic. and maybe the thought and feel of his sons kiss made him get better?

That was a killer scene. I kept waiting for him to do something else but he never did. Also, the movie was setup nicely for a sequel
