Who is the most-published author of all time?

Before you answer, I recently saw that L. Ron Hubbard has been awarded a Guinness Book of World Records entry for "most published". But does that actually represent the number of books SOLD? It seems to only refer to the total number of titles that are in "publication", presumably because Scientology chooses to keep them all in print.

Anyone have any hard numbers on who really has sold the most books? That would seem to be the most relevant definition of "most published".
 
Isaac Asimov wrote 485 books before he died. Several more were published after his death.
 
I would guess that King is up there but I would go with Zane Grey or Louis D.Amour.
My wife suggested William Shakespeare, or Zane Grey and She is an Edgar Allen Poe fan, I say that for background.
Number of Books sold? last I heard it was the Bible....
When you say published, do you mean poems, and odes? Or stories? I think it should be defined.
