Who is the author of a book called 'Richie'?

I had a paperback book many moons ago about a boy called Richie. He was born in the beginning of the novel and named George Richard for his two grandfathers.
He turns to drugs and all sorts of horrible things, and the book ends with his father shooting him and killing him.

I want to find another copy and read it again.

Can anybody help?
