The south is always portrayed as the bad and the north as good.
As more as I read in to it, the north looks more and more as the bad guy in the story.
I mean they just wanted to deprive the south of their freedom, the north didn't care about the slaves at all, and they just used them as an excuse.
For me it looks like the north and Lincoln were really totalitarians.
