Who in history was the most famous amputee ?

I have a friend who has recently had to have his leg amputated.
He was mentioning that no amputee was ever famous in history ?
Surely ther must be someone on history who was famous and was also an amputee ?
ok, I can think of Douglas "tin legs" Bader the pilot, but that's about it .
