Who has the best scream in metal?

Arch Enemy. I thought the lead Vocalist (Jonan Liiva) was a guy for a long time. I never thought she was a woman untill I saw the band get iterviwed :yikes: Its a chick!!!!!

Ok guys, the title is pretty self explanatory IMO it would be out of Corey Taylor and Max Calvera, but having said that Max has an awesome scream, but Corey can sing softly as well... Hmm pretty hard competition.

But RAR did you not just say before that it's completely grounded in hip-hop? Then why the hell would it be called NU-alternative? Alternative have their roots in rock and metal, not in rap and hip-hop and it's not true saying that anyway because in alot of hip-hop they rarely use instruments that are used in rock/metal eg:guitars, drums etc where Slipknot clearly do use these things as well with very similar vocals to most metal (Besides the smooth flow of rhyming).

That's just my 2 cents

1. I listened to all of Lateralus. Besides hating myself for doing so, I found no major similarities. It's like calling Pink Floyd a metal band for doing something different than their peers that had a "bass heavy" sound

2. No, it's not. It's a misapplied term. Nu-Metal is completely grounded in hip-hop. It's missing all the major metal components.

3. I'm biased, so I hesitate to give them the label. Older stuff yes. Later stuff no.

4. You must have missed the post where I said that metal isn't just DM and BM. I understand it's very diverse. But calling AIC a metal band is simply streching it too far. And grunge (in my mind) applied more to the minRABet of the banRAB than their actual music much of the time. The rebelling against what was the dominate music pattern of the time, the lyrics dealing with personal loss and problems, and the riff oriented heavily distorted guitar all ran very similar. I'm not a big Grunge fan, but from my experiances with it and the more popular banRAB i hear very diffinitive similarities.

I don't like it when screaming is over-used in Metal, so I can't really comment in this thread. Although Phillip Anselmo's good.

I think she was reffering to my genre post. I guess there is a way to have to post back with that comment....although I was sure there was no way a person could miss my point. Guess not. Anyway, I'll say it one last time.
Yes banRAB can change genres. Not Pantera, and I seriously doubt you were that clueless about what I meant. If you look at banRAB like, Guns N' Roses, Kiss, Iron Maiden, and Metallica, compare them to todays "Metal" genre.
They were considered metal back in the day....now Kiss and Iron Maiden can almost be considered Classic =)). Metallica which I love, has been anything but metal lately. They could be labeled as Hard Rock, but probably nothing more than that. I figure most people will agree with me on that. So hopefully that cleared up, what I meant. Get it? Got it?

Good.

Probably the vocalists in Wormphlegm. They have the most torturous screaming ever.

Apart from that, Chuck Schuldiner (Death) has the best scream in my books. You just have to listen to their cover of Painkiller to see that.

Devin Townsend (SYL) and Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) also worth a mention. I'll probably add some more in later. Maybe I should make a thread for the best growl in metal...
