The animals in Animal Farm are carefully drawn to represent figures of the Soviet Union.

Mr. Jones (human) - The last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov (Nicholas II)
Mr. Frederick (human) - Hitler and/or Germany
Mr. Pilkington (human) - Winston Churchill and/or Britain
Old Major (pig) - Karl Marx
Napolean (pig) - Joseph Stalin
Snowball (pig) - Leon Trotsky
Squealer (pig) - He's supposed to be like a Minister for Propaganda for Napolean (kind of like Joseph Goebbels for Hitler)
Benjamin (donkey) - Represent those in Russia and outside it who were suspicious of the Russian Revolution. Thought to represent Orwell himself.
Moses (raven) - Represents the Russian Orthodox Church

The equines are supposed to represent the majority of people living in Communist Russia, who worked relentlessly for nothing and never questioned the leadership.

The puppies are raised by Napolean and represent the ruthless secret police force of Communist Russia.

major- carl marx, he gave the idea of marxism, communism
napoleon- stalin, evil guy who wants to rule the world
snowball... somebody, i can't remember who...

and there are a couple more that i can't remember either, sorry.
