My 1995 Ford Aerostar (217K miles) started putting out white smoke from the tailpipe. I had an antifreeze problem where the heater hose broke and I put a patch job on the hoses to the radiator. I don't know if it's a coolant issue (I put more than a gallon of coolant in the radiator and it looks like I didn't put any in, but I don't see anything leaking anywhere) or some other issue. From what I have seen, I've probably blown a head gasket. Can replacing the head gasket be a DIY job or does it have to go to a shop? If it can be a DIY job, about how much would parts be? Will radiator stop leak be a patch until I can get it fixed either by myself or a shop? If it's a lost cause, would a junkyard just take off it off my hands or could I go to a Ford dealership that's doing a "trade it in, get a new vehicle" deal?
