I recently discovered a small white lump in my throat near my tonsils. It is painless but I can feel it when I brush the back of my tongue against it so it must be raised. At first I thought it was just a tonsil stone hanging on to the side of my throat but I am now doubting that. Its been there for a while but now seems to be getting slightly bigger in diameter. It is very small. Probably no bigger than a millimeter in diameter. It is whitish yellowish in color almost like a pimple. Like I said, at first it looked like a tonsil stone and hopefully it is. It does not bleed, pus nor does it hurt.
What scares me is that it may be a cancerous tumor because I do smoke cigarettes, although I have cut back significantly and will be quitting soon especially if this turns out to be caused by smoking. Could this be a cancerous lump? If anybody has any insight I would gladly appreciate it. I am barely turning 18 and about to graduate high school this coming june. I really dont want any health problems as I begin the rest of my life.

thanks
Alex

Here's your opportunity to start the rest of your life by quitting smoking. At least that risk will be lowered for future dilemas related to smoking...and even if this is a benign situation, you shouldn't use it as an especially if excuse.

Is it sticking out of the tonsil area? or in a separate area?

Some squeeze their tonsils out and that might be helpful in relieving that. I do, and it's totally gross to even admit it. If you have continual problems with tonsil stones, eventually you might beg to get them out...I tried, to no avail. Ticks me off that it has to be part of my hygeine regimen.

Basically, you should get it sorted out by seeing the doc eventually if it doesn't go away.

One posibility is that it's a reaction to a vitamin supplement. I once had a blister in my mouth from taking vitamin C. The way I found out was by not taking the vitamin for a few days and it went away. Then to make sure, I started the vitamin C again and it came back. So I found out that I needed a different type of vitamin C supplement. The one I can use is "non-acidic" vitamin C. But I decided not to take any at all. I now get my vitamins and minerals from natural whole fooRAB.

Are you taking a lot of vitamins or herbs? If so, you might try stopping and see if it goes away.

Are you eating a lot of strong fooRAB like spinich? I get a reaction to spinach on the side of my face.

If you're eating a lot of something because you think it's good for you, you might be getting too much and this "spot" may be a reaction to it.

Are you taking any medications? New medications? It could be a reaction to some new medication.

Have you changed your brand of cigarettes to menthol or something?

You need to think about everything you're doing.

The lumps is right in the tonsil area. I spit out tonsil stones all the time and this is always there though it used to be much smaller. It also looks as if it is flat not a round ball like a tonsil stone. Much like a pimple.

I almost always smoke menthol cigarettes. As for any repetitive food intake, I frequently eat chicken, rice, bran flakes cereal and I do not take vitamins. I can think of anything else.

It is completely painless to the touch but no matter how hard I try to remove it with my tongue, it doesnt budge.

HI I would not ever squeeze a white thing on a tonsil since this might squeeze infection into it deeper instead I would make saline 1/2 teaspoon salt to 8 ounces warm water and give it a squirt using an ear irrigation bulb (from a pharmacy) to see if it would come off and repeat every 15 minutes for an hour or two. I would not smoke ever again and I would encourage my frienRAB and everyone else around not to smoke. If the lump still remains I would visit an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. I would also ask for an Amas test. Have a beautiful weekend!
