Since I started to go to doctors for physical my my blood pressure jumps like 20 points. Normally I'm like 122/78 but at office I'm 144/92!?!? I always tell the doctors that the readings for me is wrong but I'm not sure if they believe me. Is there any way to stop this from happening. I know why it increases and that is I'm very nervous going to see doctors. I do not like it but know I should go so I do. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, Ken . . . I know exactly what you are going through. I changed doctors in August and she tested both of my arms only to find me at the 140/90 range. I told her I had white coat hyptertension, so she suggested I do something for her on my own where I would not be under stress.

If you have access to a home blood pressure monitor, you should take a reading in the morning before you eat (eating can raise your blood pressure, too) or go to a drug store that has the free blood pressure machine you can use. Do this for three or four days out of a week and give your doctor the readings.

If your readings are normal, they will place them in your chart and note what you said about white coat hypertension.

Best of luck!

Lindaru :)

In addition to advise already given, think of your body as a car that needs to be taken to the shop for repairs or checkup. Practice dis-associating yourself from your body and act like you are taking a car into the shop. It does help to do this.
