my 5 month old just started to whine and it seems like it is a 24/7 thing. everything i read seems to be based towards older children! what can i do?

It could be a number of things. Maybe teething? Acid reflux?

When I am unsure I ask the doctor or friends who have babies.

your 5 month old is NOT whinning. your baby is trying to let you know something isnt right. weather they are too hot or too cold or just uncomfortable. also your baby is exploring the fact that he/she has vocal chords and is learning how to use them

could be a fever or teething? ear infection?
diaper rash? Gas? Constipation?
Smoke from cigarrettes?
Check out your baby more closely and make sure it's not an illness.
i would definitely take your baby to the pediatrician to rule out anything.
Better to be safe than sorry!

might be a condition called colic (i think that was it) where an infant cries for long periods of time and for no reason. You really cant do anything if it is this.

but I strongly suggest to see a doctor or specialist about your child.

My son (10 months) gets very whiny when he is tired. It was nice though because he used to scream when he was sleepy. But if it is a constant whine it could be because she is starting to teethe. Is she drooling a lot or chewing on her fingers? If nothing in her environment is different then it could very well be that she has just discovered a new sound that she can make. My son went through a stage where all day he would sit and go "eeeeee eeeeee eeeeee" almost like a monkey over and over and over all day long just because it was a new sound to him. Sometimes its nothing but exploration of what her body can do. Just make sure that she is not hot or cold and she is not teething if there seems to be nothing wrong then just try to tune it out until she gets bored with it and stops.

babies are basically needs attention and comforts...your baby seems trying to practice her will. Maybe, it's time for some discipline practice! Goodluck! (i'm a mother of 3kids). Read Babywise by robert bucknam., da best!

a friend of mine had a baby boy who started doing this at abotu the two month mark. Constantly, much more so than other babies. She eventually brought him in to the doctor to see what was going on, only to discover that internally, somethign was wrong. he had to have emergency surgery on the "tube" that empties into the stomach because it was growing narrower and narrower everyday. eventually he would have starved to death,a nd he was crying because he was hurting, not because he was being stubborn or whiny. take your babies cries seriously! good luck i hope you get some sleep soon!
