Are you able to send some of that money home to help out with the bills?

the way it works is regardless of what rank you get signed up for, you get paid as an E-1 thru boot camp, and you get promoted at the end of basic, if it's in your contract. When I went thru, everyone is issued a bank account (the particular bank depends on where you go for basic), and you're money get direct deposited into that. You have to use that account until you're through with basic. I'd suggest switching once you're done though, the military doesn't use the best banks.

yes to both questions....when you get there just talk to your platoon cmdr....or senior drill instructor or senior drill sgt what ever that branch calls it....it would also be a good idea to talk to your recruiter about it before you leave....your recruiter could be in contact with your drill instructors while you are at boot camp.

Sure you get the scrilla ... you can set up direct deposit (smartest way) or get your check, and send a money order home in the mail or something.

I'm not positive for every branch, but my boyfriend is leaving for boot camp in december and he starts getting paid the day he leaves home. and yes you can send the money home, that's how my tuition is getting paid next semester. it's a great system. but i don't know if the army and marines or anything else is the same

It will depend on what branch you are joining.

It can take up to 8 weeks before receiving the first pay. The Marines do not issue the first pay until they have completed Boot.

The Army usually pays first within a few weeks of arriving. It doesn't matter what branch though it is backdated to the date you started.

You will not have any access to the pay while in Boot/Basic/BCT at all, you must bring the necessary banking information of your bank otherwise you will be required to open a new account. With the new account you will not have access to that until you have completed Basic/Boot/BCT.

If you do have the right information then the pay will be deposited into whatever account you wish it to go into. If you don't want all of it to go there, you can set up an allotment which is taken out the 15th & 1st of each month, then paid on the 1st into that account you wish it to be paid into.

You get the base pay for your particular branch with the ability to set up direct deposit and money orders.
