I drive a 92 Plymouth Grand Voyager and recently when accelerating the rpms will get quite high (like going to a 3-4) and the engine will sound really loud, I've asked around and most people say it sounds like the transmission is about to go but I don't have that kind of money , is there any other (less expensive!) reason that could be behind the high rpms?

it's got to be something to do with the transmission. i drive a 96 eclipse, and when my transmission fluid gets low(i have a leak somewhere-at least that's what my dad has been saying forever now) my car will do that. i have to turn my engine off and restart it sometimes to make it stop that. i would check your fluid-hopefully that will help it-and try not to drive it when it does that, cause if you drive it like that much you could blow your engine. that's why it starts to make that loud engine noise.
