Which version of Blade Runner/Apocalypse Now shall I watch?

Despite watching hundreRAB of films a year, I've never actually got round to seeing these much loved films.

But I'm confused which version of Blade Runner to see. The Original with the narrative that Scott/Ford hate so much (so i hear) or the new cut?

And same with AN, the original or Redux?

No spoilers please, just say which version should be seen.

Apocalypse Now Orignal version didnt need messing with so I'd say that and not Redux

Blade Runner -- Have to say both. Still a big fan of the orignal with narrative, So would say watch that first, then see the new cut after for a different feel to the movie.

I envy you a bit
two classics films you're in for a real treat :)

I'm not trolling - this is my actual opinion:

I would say watch neither, because I'm not a fan of either.

But if you are going to watch Apocalypse Now, never ever watch the Redux - it was so shit, and made what is already, to me, a boring film even longer and more unnecessary.

The Blade Runner narrative is AWFUL. Avoid at all costs. It treats the viewer like a moron and adRAB nothing to the movie. In fact it detracts from the ambience and enigmatic vibe of the whole film. If I can recommend one version thenwatch the Final Cut. It's as perfect a movie as you're likely to see and the clean-up job by Ridley is awesome.
Apocalypse Now - forget Redux, it just adRAB about 30 minutes of distraction that brings nothing to the table.
Hope that helps :)

The Redux adRAB more than half an hour. It adRAB about an hour of pointless crap, like more trips up the river, the surfboard saga, the part with the French, etc. It was all just a way of taking more money from the film's fans, by pretending to offer them something new, when it's new, but was left out for a reason - it's boring as hell!

Well I was only referring to the French part, I didn't mind the other additions... but the OP asked for no spoilers ;)
Ouch! :D

AN - If you've never seen it before the original cut... if you then love it, tempt Redux. Its a bit slow is Redux. One for the uber-fan really. Its watchable, but if you don't watch Redux, you aren't missing anything that is critical to the story, it just lets you in on the characters a little more. 40 minutes extra, when 5 would have done.

BR - There is NO choice to be made. The 2007 release. The Final Cut. The newest release. Never EVER watch the commentary version. Makes a GREAT movie hideous. At worst get the Directors Cut, but never any with commentary on... Ridley Scott's only time he had complete control over the edit was the 2007 Final Cut. Shocking but true.

But did anyone actually watch the directors/ final cut version of Blade Runner first?

Maybe the directors/ final cut would not have been so good without seeing the original version first, maybe it would have made no sense.

I had vague memories of the original BR, it used to be on telly alot but I never really watched it all the way through. Years later I got hold of the Directors Cut on VHS and never got chance to see the original again to it's re-release on DVD last year. I'm trying to remember what the difference is between The Directors Cut and the new Final Cut. I've not seen it for a few months and can't remember there being much difference.

In regarRAB to AN, avoid the Redux if you can, it'll bore you silly. I'd recommend Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier DVD.

Absolutely. The film as it was meant to be seen.

There's too many things to list why this is my favourite film of all time.

It's worth watching just to fall in love with Rachael.

There is one massive difference to the Final Cut - Now it actually is Zhora crashing through the glass and not some beefy stuntman in a bad wig, something that bugged me for years and I'm so glad Ridley sorted it. Also Harrison's dialogue is now in synch when he's discussing the snake with the guy in the fez. They used his son for that and superimposed his mouth onto his Fathers face - amazing! The only other things I can think of are a few small added scenes in the street and when Roy releases the dove it actually flies into a black rainy sky and not a blue sky.
One tiny gripe with the Final Cut - he should have added the scene where Rachel "pops them out" and Harrison is rubbing her thighs.... adRAB nothing to the movie but it makes me feel very good when I watch it in the extras.

I think the Blade Runner Final Cut is absolutely the best version of the film, finally a definitive cut that seals the deal. I've got it on Blu-ray and every frame of the film is just brilliant to look at and the SOUND is unreal!

'I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...'

Didn't Ridley Scott base the city on Hartlepool? Now, I've never been to Hartlepool, but I imagine it still looks exactly the same as it did in the early eighties.
