Which type of bicycle would be fit for me?

I have a simple, absolutely simple bike, and i have retained it since 1995 when i purchased it, i am very much found of cycling, i am a bit overweight and tall to (6.1" ) i want to have a bike with gears and other stuff on it, please suggest me some bicycles.
