Which two companies would you choose to compare?

For a marketing assignment I have to pick two companies in the same category and compare them with various marketing criteria. One company must be a large national retailer and the other must be a smaller independent retailer (such as a local business). Ive been trying to think of ideas for the companies to use but I'm just not sure what businesses I want to pick. I was thinking Starbucks vs. a local coffee house or Bank of America vs. a local community bank as some possible ideas but thought maybe I could get some more ideas here.
