A certain enzyme will hydrolyze egg white but not starch. Which statement best explains this observation?

1. Enzymes are specific in their actions.
2. Starch molecules are too large to be hydrolyzed.
3. Starch is composed of amino acids.
4. Egg white acts as a coenzyme for hydrolysis.

its 4.....???

1. Enzymes are specific in their actions.

Enzymes are very specific, and usually only acts on certain things. In order for the enzyme to work, the substrates must fit in the active site. The shape of the active site usually only fits certain substances. If something does not fit in the active site, the enzyme will not act on it.
