To try to make this as simple as possible, I'm a grad student going to the University of Illinois attending my second year. The University does not require/accept changes in residency if you are from another state, nor does it matter for grad students when I was accepted as non-residents pay the same if tuition is waived, so I never got around to getting a new Drivers licence. I have not returned to my home state of IN except for a few holiday visits, but still have my drivers there at my parents address....
By what I have looked up, the most accurate thing to do is claim non-resident status on illinois (no choice as they require a drivers) and a partial residence on my Indiana. though this seems logical to me as far as my taxes are concerned, I'm not sure how it would be taken if claim this, as I'm sure Indiana would want their more than fair share of money as normal.
