Which Star Wars should I watch first; A New Hope or The Phantom Menace?

I know that a New Hope came out first, but the Phantom Menace is the first prequel. Will it make sense if I watch the prequel trilogy before the original trilogy? 'Cause I already rented The Phantom Menace...
