Which side typically tips the Maitre' D at a wedding? Bride side or the groom side?

There is already a percentage tip in the contract of 18% but a tip on top of that to the Maitre' D is encouraged. My future father in law is saying that I am responsible for paying that tip and I am just curious if I actually am or if it really resides with him since he is the host of the event.
 
typically the Bride's father. Or who ever is paying the tab. Its really an additional expense that should be covered by the person paying the bill.
