Which sat provider is more east facing?

Thanks! I believe it's going to be extremely close call for signal. I really hope both but maybe I could work with just having 82. Could or would they flip all the HD to 91 in time?

My main interest is HD. I rarely watch any SD anymore. I also want the sports packages so this maybe an issue as they seem to be carried on 91.

Thanks again everyone.

I have been trying to narrow down which satellite company I maybe able to obtain from where I am.

I believe I face North-East.

Any chance I could get a signal pointing the dish East?

And which sat provider is more east facing . I guess this should be my real question?

Well I walked around the neighbourhood....saw a few Bell dishes (assuming they were legit) and seems they face a direction which I can too? The only diff being most were on opposite of the buildings.

Oh well. I am going to still give it a try. *choice tech person seem to think I could get a signal but i was trying to find out which provider had more south facing.

If it is close they might be able to use a slightly longer Mast, giving a few degrees more for pointing.

I doubt they will move any HD for the foreseeable future.

Hmm ok. Thanks for your help. Hope and pray it all works out. Not holding my breath though. Tired of this Shaw cable. I haven't had cable for 5yrs. Now I am stuck with it but hopefully the gods are with me :) and they can find a signal. What is the minimum strength needed in your opinion? 60?

I used that dishpointer tool and the blue line runs right along my apartment wall! How close is that. Technicalities will be the answer.

Well to answer your question directly, it would be Express Vu that is the most Southerly but it is still South West....If that makes sense.

Express Vu are at 82 & 91 degrees, Starchoice are at 107 & 111 (I think).

The further East or West you go the lower in the sky, the sat appears to be.

NOTE: for the Main programming on EXpressVu you need 91 degrees.

Is there any chance of putting the Dish on the Roof.? Is it a flat roof.?

Make sure you do the pointing with it set for BOTH sats, 91 & 82.

I already asked when I moved in about the roof. They said no. And yes I pointed the dishpointer at both 82/91 together. ;) But I am a bit confused because when I select these separately it appears quite different...or somewhat different.

I guess and hope to see.

It's not crapping or trolling to state a fact about BEV's lower look angle and rain fade issues due to the low angle in Vancouver. Physics don't lie, Anik satellites are higher in the sky from Vancouver than the Nimiqs period and the poster deserves to know this regardless of Bell, Star Choice fanboiism.

In absolute terms, ExpressVu satellites are more east than Star Choice. 82w (Nimiq 2?) is the most eastern but it primarily carries HD and foreign language programming. The "main" EVu satellite is at 91w.

But depending on your location, EVu birds may be southeast, south or southwest of you.

If it is a flat roof, there are ways to install so there is no damage.

Yes it will be different for Both Sats.

I guess that would be true unless the obstruction or rain cloud were higher in the sky. Its just the same as saying expressvu is better cause its got bigger or more etc.... Anyhow where did rain fade come from.

I'll post this link again. Maybe it will help to guide you.

Select your sat, enter your full address, the green line points to the satellite

For crying out loud, the guy asked about a Satelittes direction, I do not see how telling him that it is more prone to rain fade helps in answering that question.

There have been warnings issued and posters banned to Thread Crapping yet here it seems to have been allowed and with no issues, if I go onto the Starchoice Forum and say that Express Vu's HD PVR is better that the Star Choice offering on a thread talking about Elevation and Angles to hit the Anik Birds I would expect a warning.....

Your post was at the very least Off Topic, I still call it Thread Crapping....

Read this, it will explain it for you.

Hmmm now I am very curious as to how high or where in the air the dish needs to be pointed? Directly across? or up in the air how many feet?

I am on the sixth floor, so about 60 feet roughly.

The fact that Bell's sats have a very low look angle from Vancouver and therefore prone to rainfade should be known by anyone lucky enough to find this forum.

Otherwise, what's the point of having a forum like this???
