Which phones are available?

Hey all,

I'm looking for some help in choosing a phone. I'm a verizon customer, so right off the bat, I know that narrows my options quite a bit.

Here's the deal: I'm a resident physician (doctor-in-training), and I need a phone that doubles as a PDA. Basically, I need a phone that I can upload programs to. Programs like drug manuals(programs that have a list of all the different medicines, dosages, etc.), programs that contain a bunch of different kinds of calculators (calculate the severity of liver disease, calculate the amount of electrolyte abnormalities, etc.) and the phone must be able to synch with my regular desktop.

I'm willing to buy a used phone off of eBay and have verizon activate it for me, so I hope that widens the list a little. Yes, money IS an option (I'm still a resident, LOL!!)

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

What software do you need to run these programs? A program that runs in windows mobile wont run in Palm or the BlackBerry OS. Talk to other doctors and see what they use. If OS is not an issue you have to look at the features you want in a phone (touch screen or not. Flip, slider, candybar, etc. Size. bluetooth, wifi, speakerphone, etc)
In general I love my blackberry curve, and the pearl is a good shrunken version if size is an issue. But there is also the palm centro, VX6800, and treo are also good choices. I would avoid the Q

Thanks for the reply! To be honest, I'm not sure... I know I have them on my Palm tungsten (which I lost...) and my co-workers run them on their iPhones as well as verizon smartphones...

My preferences at this point are non-flip, touch screen and wi-fi, and speakerphone.

Would a phone like the LG voyager or samsung glyde work?

Thanks again!

Nope, (at least odds are no, there is always a chance) great phones for surfing the net and stuff, but for what you want you need a smartphone. Talk to your coworkers and see if any of them know if the programs will work on a Blackberry I personally feel that is your best choice. If not the centro should do it, it has a touch screen, but no WiFi (BB has no WiFi either) If you jump up $200-250 in price there is the Treo and XV6800, but they make poor phones (great PDAs, but poor phones).
