Hello! I need an advice on choosing Android phone from ATT in the US

HTC Aria vs HTC pure? Or are there any other choices of Android from ATT?

I can also go with Verizon if that makes sense, but no other cariers decent coverage in my area (rural Pennsylvania). I think Sprint sucks around here.

Also how hard is it to jailbreak the HTC From ATT so that I can install apps from third party sites (not just from apps market)?

By the way, the reason I want to switch from my current iphone to Android is because I want to learn developing apps for Android, so this requirement should also be taken into consideration.

Thanks for your help.

well, first of all, you don't need to "jailbreak" your phone. although you might need to root your phone to install apps from your sd card.. not entirely sure about that.

well, if switching to verizon is an option, i'd go with that. verizon has shown that they're committing to android, and they've released, and are rumored to release, a bunch of really nice phones; i.e., droid, eris, incredible, droid x, droid2, etc.

att has been bound to apple, since apple doesn't want att to make partnerships with other companies (haha, steve jobs is gay). so att has really weak android phones. if you want to stick with att, your best bet is to get an unlocked gsm phone, like the nexus one or the samsung galaxy s that's coming out soon. if you do that, you ought to wait a while, since tmobile's phones aren't very good right now either.

Also if you go with AT&T you won't be able to install third party app as they have disabled that option. In order to install third party apps with AT&T you would have to root your phone, apple fan boy talk for jailbreaking the phone. Some reasons you might want to root your phone.

If you want to switch to AT&T Android the best bet is to wait for the Captivate, which is the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S.

The HTC Pure wouldn't really be an option since it is a Windows phone and the Droid port is still far from perfect.

The HTC Aria is a nice little phone but the specs are not top of the line and the lcd screen is just 3.2" with a 480x320 resolution. If you don't mind the resolution is an acceptable choice for developing as long as you keep in mind to make your apps resolution independent. Also you won't be able to update to the new version of Android beyond 2.2 as Google announced it will have a 1GHz processor minimum. The Aria has a 600MHz cpu.

Hope that information helps!

Verizon would be the best thing ever happen to your life and it would be great if you could get Droid X.
Cause tht sweet mother pearl is the shot.

Thanks everyone. I just found that my 2-year contract with ATT/iphone on till February next year. So I guess I will have to wait before switching to Verizon. For now I may just order inexpensive android phone that Google offers to developers (without any actual cell phone service). I think it's about $200.
