Hi - I am in the privileged situation of having a choice of company car (with fuel) to travel to my new place of work - I have demo'ed a number of them, but I really cannot choose between these two :

VW Passat Highline 2.0D Estate
Mazda 6 Sport 2.0D Estate

As we have three kids and intend to go on trips to France, I have to have an estate, but which one would you go for and why ?

theyre both good , german vs japanese. if you took off the badges id take the mazda on looks alone. as theres not much else in it.

check out http://www.whatcar.co.uk/ - they are good for pointing out good and bad points

Japanese cars are made out of paper thin steel - yes I know they're made to crumple with side intrusion zones etc, but how strong can you make a coca-cola can! Would choose the VW.

As much as i like the sporty Mazda 6, i would suggest the Passat. The mazda is nice but you can't beat german engineering. The Passat has a subtle but elegant desgin that helps it blend in pretty much anywhere. Also, german cars generally keep a higher resale value as opposed to Japanese or American cars.

Go with the Passat, it's so much classier than the sporty Mazda 6.
