elantra, or mazda 3? the biggest concerns are safety and price, so considering those as well as looks and performance, which would be the best car for a young driver
 
In terms of safety all of these cars are equal. The Hyundai would be the cheapest. The Mazda is the best looking and offers the best performance but it's also the most expensive. The Civic is just plain ugly and the Corolla looks like grandma should be driving it.

My pick would be the Mazda

But I would not buy anything without also considering a Ford Focus, VW Jetta, Mistubishi Lancer or Nissan Versa.
