For the time being, I'm a member of the Autodesk Student Community and have free access to Autodesk's software products. So, my question is: out of all software sold by Autodesk, which program or combination of programs is best for 3D car modeling (mainly the body and interior, may or not include the guts of the car), and more importantly, why? The main candidates seem to be 3ds Max, 3ds Max Design, Alias Automotive, Inventor Pro (the only one I have any experience with), and Maya.
Secondly, if you don't mind too much, what's the difference between Showcase and Impression, and is either one necessary or helpful for "prettying up" the completed car models to be presented on a website?
For obvious reasons, I would greatly appreciate an objective answer from someone who has plenty of experience with most or all of these programs. Regardless, it'd be great if you could list as a source any software that you do have significant experience with.
