CO2 2Na + Cl2 --> 2NaCl? Which of the following does not represent a decomposition reaction? CaCO3 --> CaO + CO2,
2Na + Cl2 --> 2NaCl
AB --> A + B

The second example is a combination reaction. The first is an example of a decomposition reaction. The third is the general form for a decomposition reaction where AB can be any compound and A and B are the 2 materials formed when AB breaks down.

your equation makes little sense im afraid, the decomposition reaction of CaCO3 however, is

CaCO3 + [O] --> CaO + CO2

and the 2Na + Cl2 --> 2NaCl - this is an example of a formation reaction. for a reaction to be a decomposition reaction you must be reacting it fully with oxygen, initially burning it.
