I am a young clarinet player investing in a new mouthpiece for my Buffet R13 Bb clarinet, specifically the Vandoren M13. However, I am not sure of all of the differences between the Vandoren M13 and the Vandoren M13L (Lyre) mouthpieces. One appears to be better for symphonic and chamber playing, while the other is better for orchestral playing. I am used to playing in large ensembles, such as high school, college, and state audition bands. However, I also must have the capability to produce a tone suitable for solo and small ensemble playing. What would you recommend?
