I want to buy a new mountain bike. I have been recommended the Specialiized Rockhopper. I used this in Richmond Park and it was a really good bike.

I now want to buy my own. I have seen the evans website.;.. but apart from them there are not many other stores to choose from.

Can anyone recommend a good bike for under £500?
Anyone recommend any good bike shops in Nw London or london?

Good websites for biking??

Yeah. what he said.

Apart from the Rockhopper and the Hardrock. I would probably look at a few other bikes. I don't know London so do not know what happens at Richmond Park.

However, the sort of riding you do will dictate the bike. You are right to stick to a hardtail for £500. I would also look at Scott. You can usually get a viable machine from them. Claude Butlers Cape Wrath is not bad. I would also consider Giant. The XTC range is not bad, although for under £500 you are probably looking at Rock SE or similar.

Kona is also worth a look. They have good frames, typically square to round profile. Nice Kit. If you can fork out for it, look at the Kona Blast.

Rockhopper is good for jumping, a nice bike, so is the Hardrock Sport/Pro, GT Avalanche 2 is good/lightweight, but prob not as strong as the Rockhopper, Specialized P1 all mountain is good too, can be used for practically anything (jumping, XC)

For under 500 I would def. go with the hardrock pro or the rockhopper, they have hydraulic brakes, nice forks, and will be able to handle light jumping,
