I'm interested in joining the military as an officer. I'm 23, will be graduating in one year from UCLA and have been a lifeguard for the past three years and I like it. Considering going to OCS. Currently trying to decide which branch would be a good fit. When doing research on the various branches, the following are important to me:
1. A field of common interest: I really like saving people/doing rescues. I've been considering being a firefighter as well. Saving people from drowning, from fires, etc. is a very rewarding experience for me and I enjoy it.
2. A branch that's the most homosexual and woman friendly: I'm gay female and it's important to me to work in a branch that doesn't have high discrimination towards that.
3. A branch that deploys the least amount to war zones: I completely respect soldiers and officers who have served our country in Iraq, etc. however, I would be interested in serving my country in a different way, such has helping in disaster relief, saving people from sinking boats, or flying troops to help aid a rescue.
These are the branches I have in mind so far are: the marine reserve, the coast guard, the army national guard, airforce reserve and the navy reserve. Which one do you think would be a good fit?
