Samsung is much better than the Toshiba. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read reviews on tvs, you might might the model you are looking at. For about the same price I would get a Panasonic Plasma tv. It is still considered to have a better picture quality than the LCD tvs. The Panasonic Plasma 42" model G10 was featured in September issue in which they compared it to a Sony, Toshiba, LG and Vizion LCD tvs. The Panasonic was the top choice and the only model with a THX certification. You will also notice that Panasonic has a tv in each price category of entry level to the high high while Sony, Samsung and Toshiba (just recently Jan issue) does not. Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio did not even get mentioned. Hope this will help you out.
