Specifically these two television sets which are currently the same price of $699
Samsung LN46C530F1F 46" 60Hz 1080p

Sony Bravia EX400 46" 60Hz 1080p

The two guys at Best Buy said Samsung is a better brand and that Sony uses all Samsung parts but their own software anyways, and said go with the Samsung which is the Rolls Royce of LCDs.
BUT I noticed the Samsung's contrast ratio is only 80,000:1 whereas the Sony's is 140,000:1
I hear LG is also good and their 47LD500 TV is comparable to those above but is 120Hz, also the contrast ratio is 100,000:1

oh and their pixel response times are:
Sony 8ms
Samsung 6ms
LG 4ms
