I m having a Canon s5is.But the photos taken in night even with flash looks dull.Same when done with Sony DSC H50 is preety good.I like photography and a beginner in this profession.I want a slr camera which gives flashy photos in night also.

first... any slr or dslr will take good day and night photos. but they are completely dependant on both the lens attached and the skill of the photographer. learn all you can about taking pictures and get out of auto mode.

Eric,

I have read really good things about the Nikon D700 and night photography.

Until quite recently film was the big dog for night photography because of the issues of heat related noise in digital cameras. However, some of the files from the D700, regarding long exposure noise, look almost as good as film.

In this D700 image you will see that noise is moderate but not offensive: http://www.flickr.com/photos/disavage/3239831625/sizes/o/

Again, moderate but not offensive. This is about as good as you can expect with digital: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jnppvch/3046503592/sizes/o/

Right now, you're using point & shoot cameras. They are terrible in low light.

The D700 is probably the best for the money out there, but I'd be surprised if you're looking to spend over $2500 (body only) for your first SLR.

You could start with a D90. It's not as good as the D700, but 100x better than any point & shoot and would be a good learning camera. Even if you bought the $8K Nikon, you wouldn't get the benefit without the skill & knowledge to use it.
