Which is better: Samsung/Google Nexus S or HTC Desire?

I'm looking into getting one of these two phones, but not sure. I'm slightly drawn towards the Nexus S as it has Gingerbread / Android 2.3, but I've been told that the HTC Desire is one of the best phones on the market. What are your opinions and do you have any links to reviews / comparisons for the both? I've looked online but can only seem to find comparisons between the Nexus S and Desire HD (I'd probably get the standard or desire Z) and the HTC Desire and Nexus One
