Hyundai's have a very good warranty, but I don't really like how the cars are built. They have come a long way in terms of quality though. I've owned 2 Mazdas and they have been fine cars, in terms of style, materials and such. If you have extended warranty on the Mazda, I would probably keep driving it until it expires. You probably had to pay for it, so might as well get the most out of it before moving on to the Sonata. Every time you switch cars, you lose money because of all the fees you have to pay to get into a another.

we just bought an 07 hyundia elantra and really like it and its getting good gas mileage, my husband has an 07 mazda3(33000) and likes it but is wanting to trade it in for an 08 hyundia sonata(12000miles) that gets better gas mileage like 5 mpg more but which is better in the long run, any mechanical problems and such, oh and my husband also has the extd warranty on his mazda

First off Jason M ..............and his mother are idiots.

Sorry for being harsh.

The latest JD Powers long term dependability study shows Hyundai is now above average; 13th out of 37 makers. Mazda is below avg in 21st place. http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/releases/pressrelease.aspx?ID=2008115
Not saying EVERY Hyundai will last longer then a Mazda but just showing how good Hyundai's have gotten.

In terms of mpg I never heard of the Sonata being that much better. Maybe around the same because the Sonata has a more advanced engine which is saying alot because it's a mid-sized car being compared to a small car.
Because of improvements to the engine the "2009" Sonata may get a little better mpg then the 3.
Unless he wants because it has more room as well as good fuel economy I don't think it would be worth the trouble.

The 08 Sonata 4-cylinder will probably get the same mileage as the Mazda3 S. I would stay with the Mazda3, Hyundai's are cars for people who can't afford real cars. I know that sounds harsh, but if we are honest with ourselves that is exactly what they are. I mean even my 90 year old mom says "ahh, hunny, look at those poor people in their Hyundai, life can be so cruel"
