Which is better: AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile?

I have a prepaid phone right now, but I want a new, "regular", texting phone. I have friends who use all three of these services, but I am not sure which would be a better deal. I am looking for a sliding texting phone or an easy to use touch screen(that's looks good, but isn't really expensive). Right now, I like the Samsung Solstice ate AT&T(FREE with $50 mail-in rebate, $20 min. of message and 2 year contract). My mom doesn't want to pay a lot of money each month and doesn't believe in using cell phone contracts. Any suggests and your past experiences would be very helpful! Please mention other phone suggestions for each company. Thank you!
 
Verizon! It has great deals, amazing coverage, and really cool-looking phones. I have T-Mobile and don't really like it... But my parents and most of my friends have Verizon and love it.
