I had my alternator tested and it was running at 12.5 volts when he said the norm is 13.5 to 14.5 volts. I'm buying one in a couple days before it drains the brand new battery I just put in. Which is a good alternator at a good price for a 4.6 liter engine. If it matters, I have a Sirius satellite radio installed and often use power while engine is off while sitting in my car for 10-15 minutes at a time. And what is the voltage I SHOULD be having?
The way it was tested.... Autozone brought out that huge tester thing on wheels. First he clamped up the battery, came up good. Then he asked me to rev up to 2000 rpm and that's when he showed me the alternator running at 12.5 volts, and I did not have any accessories on at the time.
I wanted to also comment that my sat radio doesnt seem to take too much power and I'm not running any high end speakers or sound system in there. So whats the voltage on a brand new alternator to be capable for me to sit with radio without the engine running?
