The first half (1900-1950) Saw:

1. The Great War (I)
2. The roaring 20s
3.The Great Depression of the 30s
4. World War II
5. The beginning of the cold war and Korean War

The Second half (1950-2000) had:
1. The Conservative 50s and Korean War
2. The hippy culture of the 60s and Vietnam
3. Hip 70s
4. Economic revolution (Reaganomics) of the 80s
5. Pokemon, high-tech culture introduced in the 90s.
 
Tough call. The first half is what set the stage for the modern dominance of Western civilization, and the dramas of the great wars. The second saw the single most amazing cultural and technological revolution the world has ever known. It's a toss up.
