I've been searching for a new computer to upgrade to. Specifically, a gaming PC. One that can handle most of today's games and demands of running processes. Things like extracting files, burning CDs, launching an application, and booting up the machine shouldn't all take too long to finish, right? Well, with an old, budget eMachines I bought more than 3 years ago, most of those things aren't simple enough and it takes a ridiculous amount of time to accomplish. So, when I went to Newegg.com to find a better suitable computer for me, I came across two that caught my interest. Compared to the specs I have currently:
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+
2.39 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
Nvidia EVGA 9400 GT 1 GB
Windows XP Service Pack 3
I upgraded the graphics and RAM in the past to improve performance, but it's just not enough for what I need these days. And so, here are the two I'm interested in buying:
2.9 GHz Dual core:

2.6 GHz Quad Core:

The thing is, I'm not sure which one to go with. Usually, I'm playng games such as Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade/Soulstorm, and Halo 2. The quad core looks nice, but I'm not sure if I want to spend over 700$. Especially since I'm on a budget. I'm guessing the dual core would be sufficient. Only 609$ in total for tax and shipping. Since I do plan to upgrade to Windows 7 in the future.
