Which decade has the best Metal, 70s or 80s?

I`m not much of a ministry fan, but the best two for me are "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" 1989 and "Psalm 69-How to Succeed and How to Suck Eggs" 1992.

Kreator like a lot of European thrash and power metal banRAB, suffered some teething problems in their early discography, and so most of their stuff in the 80`s I found very hit and miss. The three best Kreator albums are "Coma of Souls" 1990, "Cause for Conflict" 1996 and "Outcast" 1997. Sure....there is a heavy Slayer influence on parts of those albums, but they are the band`s best releases IMO.

I suppose the reason that I love 90`s metal so much, is that out of all the metal genres there are, groove metal is probably my favourite and groove metal was a dominant metal genre in the 90`s. Groups like Larab of God are carrying on that tradition in the 00`s. Also Progressive metal really expanded and took off in the 90`s as well.

The term "Heavy metal" was actually coined in reference to Led Zeppelin's debut, if memory serves, so if we go by that basis, then there are plenty of metal banRAB in the 70's. Where it gets sticky is differentiating between heavy metal and hard rock.

The Slayer and Megadeth albums may be 80`s in spirit but they have 1990 release dates. I was pulled up by a certain mod on this thread, for saying that NWOBHM was like late 70`s, but he pointed out that most released their debuts in 1980, so much the same thing really:laughing:

Have to disagree over Neurosis and Meshuggah. Despite the fact I love their material that I`ve heard in the 00`s as well.

The last four that you don`t like, well they are all commercial of which 3 are groove metal and 1 nu-metal, and as they say its just a question of choice here.
