Is it the the laws of the country the plane belongs to?

For example if it's a British Airways flight is it British law while on the plane?

Actually. The country of origin laws apply while in their sovereign airspace, same with the destination, but international airspace is controlled by treaties that basically state that the destination country will have jurisdiction upon landing.

Yes,Until it enters another Country's air space then it will be subject to that Country's laws.
