Which can ford deep water better, gasoline or diesel engines?

I ask this question because on more than one occasion I have been able to drive through very deep (three feet or more) of standing water after a torrential thunderstorm, where Semi's and Fire Engines are stalled, even though my 4x4 gasoline pickup isn't as high off the ground.

This makes me think diesel engines don't handle deep water very well.
My 4x4 is totally stock, no snorkle.
Transmission and X-fer case were okay, Diffs are vented and need changing after "puddle-jumping."
My truck is a Chevy, and my buddy has a Dodge. We both made it thru every time.
