My son is 8 years old and I wanted to get him a bike for Christmas this year. I was looking in Target this afternoon and a sign said that a 20" wheel bike is good for kids up to 58" and a 24" wheel is good for kids 58" and taller. Right now my son is 56" so I wasn't sure if I should get the smaller bike but then he'd outgrow it quicker or get the bigger bike and then he could grow into it. There was no one around in the store to ask, so I wanted other people's opinions. I also wanted it to be a surprise, otherwise I was thinking I could just bring him in and have him sit on them to see which is better. Which one do you think is better?

typically the way you should measure is have your son stand over the bike as if he is going to ride it but with his seat off the bikes seat and his feet on the floor. There should be about 2inches between the top bar and your sons crotch.

The problem with getting a bigger bike for your son especially if he is learning he can have some bad injuries if that space isn't there. Hope you know what I mean.
