Where to stay - Covent Garden or Knightsbridge?

Ok I'm really stuck here. I am visiting London and I don't know if I should stay in Covent Garden or Knightsbridge. I've heard Knightsbridge is nicer and maybe safer since I'm traveling alone?
Is Knightsbridge near a good shopping area? I'd just like to be central.

Covent Garden definitely. It's almost the epicentre of shopping, clubbing et al.

Knightsbridge has the most up-market shops in London and Covent Garden has a big choice of excellent shops too. Both are central. Both are great for shopping.
