I bought Mongoose with 21 gears in Wallmart and it broke in a couple of weeks, so I returned it and bought another one just like the first one and it broke again the price was around 150$. From my own experience I'll never recommend or buy this brand (Mongoose) again. I see most people ride these brands: NEXT, Schwinn. In Wallmart and Target they coast about 200$ but I don't know if they are good or they also will brake in few months or even weeks...
Can somebody who has or had a mountain bicycle from these brands (Next or Schwinn) tell if they are good and last a long time? I'm specially interested in Schwinn. Also tell me the price and if it's possible to buy a good mountain bicycle under 250$.
If you can then also recommend mountain bike of other brands for a reasonable price and where to buy them.

Learn your lesson; buying a bike from anywhere besides a good bike shop will leave you with junk.

Most great bike companies offer entry level bikes that will last. On sale you may find one for under $300, but expect to pay $350 to $400 for a solid bike. Trek, Giant, Raleigh, Specialized, Gary Fisher and the like all offer great bikes.
