Where to buy a block of wood for sculpture's base?

I've just made an almost life-size head and neck sculpture, using air-dry clay that doesn't require firing.

I think it would look nicer with a rectangular wood base. Where can I buy a block of wood that is the right size for the base? Any suggestions for how to attach it?
