I am going to have two months to travel during summer 2011 before returning to school. I have NO travel experience and need some suggestions given the following criteria:

1. I am trying to stick to large land masses, not traveling to small islands or secluded countries. The idea is to buy just ONE very expensive plane ticket, and then travel via ground or boat from there to a myriad of destinations. Less planning = better. I like spontaneity.

2. In the two months, I want to keep moving. I likely wont spend more than a few days in any one city or region. This means that another potential destination of interest ought to be reasonably close by. Again, no islands or secluded countries.

3. I thrive in active environments. I will become bored with slow paced culture. Relaxing on beaches is not my cup of tea.

4. When considering expenses, the cost of food and transportation takes priority over accommodations since I will be primarily couchsurfing.

5. The ideal travel experience is a mix of interesting cities and countryside adventures. Even though I dont like slow-paced life, I am a sucker for intense nature adventures. I will spend extra time in an area if it means getting to hike on a set of cliffs or getting climb a monument.

6. I would rather spend my time being social than perusing museums or standing in long lines for some boring tourist trap.

7. It will be summer here in the US when I depart so keep in mind the seasons of potential destinations.

Europe and south africa have been suggested to me thus far but I thats obviously a little vague.

Thank you in advance to anyone with advice!
