...job? My friend is ready to kill herself. Thankfully right now she is sleeping (more like passed out) from drinking. Her partner and I want to take her in the morning to check her in some place or at least get her some help but we are not sure where to go.
She is currently unemployed, and has no health insurance. She is a 2 tour Iraqi war vet, but never enrolled for VA benefits when she separated. Over the past 4 months she has had legal and financial issues that are now catching up with her. She is drinking heavily daily and has now started talking about a suicide plan.
She needs to detox, clean up and get some mental health. We live in Augusta GA, and we do have a VA Hospital in town. Will they take her even though she never enrolled? Should I take her to a regular ER like the Medical College of GA or Doctors Hospital? I know the have to at least check her over even though she doesn't have insurance. I just am not sure if they can really help her or not...Any ideas?
Just wanted to add,
A- Thanks for all the replies
B - I know she has PTSD, a lot of us do. Luckily I still work for the DOD so I have good health coverage.
C - I think those are the 2 options I shall give her in the morning, she can come with me in my car, or I can call the cops. At this point, those are the ONLY 2 options she gets.
One last question, anyone who has been through this before..being a friend watching someone do this...got any advice on how to keep myself sane? I have been the suicidal one before, thankfully I had solid friends to get me through...but being on this side of things is just as hard I am learning.....any tips?
